The consultation was led by the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas and the State Secretary for Strategic Affairs of Romania Daniel Ioniţă. The meeting focused on important issues of bilateral cooperation, the Eastern Neighbourhood, European security and NATO’s agenda.

Krivas expressed his gladness that the two countries enjoyed excellent bilateral relations, maintained an intensive political dialogue on key foreign policy issues and shared assessments and views on essential items on the political agenda. Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister also stressed the importance of economic cooperation, highlighting the need to exploit every opportunity in this field.

As regards a relationship with Russia and the assessment of situation in Ukraine, Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister noted that the Minsk Agreements must be fully implemented. Krivas also attached importance to Russia’s implementation of its respective obligations.

“It is Lithuania’s position that the scope of economic sanctions against Russia should be extended until full implementation of the Minsk agreements,” said Krivas. According to Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister, it is also important to dedicate appropriate attention to promoting the Eastern Partnership policy and the EU’s support for its partners in the region.

Krivas also welcomed the outcomes of the NATO Summit, which was held by heads of state of Central and Eastern European countries in Bucharest on 4 November.
