LITHUANIAN REPRESENTATIVES PARTICIPATE IN EUROPEAN UNION ELECTION OBSERVATION MISSION IN WEST BANK AND GAZA STRIP

Lithuania among other European Union states was invited to participate in the Election Observation Mission for the Presidential elections in West Bank and Gaza Strip, which will take place on 9 January 2005. It is planned to send 32 short-term and 128 long-term observers from the EU member states. On 15 December two long-term observers left from Lithuania for this Mission. It is also planned to send four short-term observers on 4 January 2005. This is the second time when Lithuania participates in the EU Election Observation Mission. The first Lithuanian observers took part in Mozambique Presidential and Parliamentary elections on 1-2 December. This possibility opened up to Lithuanian nationals when country became a member of the EU. The Election Observation Missions established by this organisation offer participants an additional opportunity to improve their skills, to gain professional experience and knowledge in order to use them in Lithuania.
