LITHUANIAN PRESIDENT HAILS SWEDISH AMBASSADOR'S EFFORTS TO RAISE EU AWARENESS

In a personal conversation with Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus welcomed the Swedish
ambassador's efforts to raise public awareness about the European Union (EU).
Adamkus congratulated the Swedish premier on the resolute start of the EU presidency during the first half of this year.
The president welcomed Swedish Ambassador in Vilnius Jan Palmstierna's efforts in presenting tasks of key importance for European future to
be undertaken during Sweden's chairmanship over the organization.
Persson assured that his country is prepared to keep the intensive pace of EU pre-accession talks to make the enlargement process smoother.
In response, Adamkus reaffirmed that all Lithuanian institutions were rallying efforts in order for the country to complete the membership
negotiations in line with the planned timetable.
