LITHUANIAN OFFICIAL STARTS HIS DUTIES AS A SENIOR POLITICAL ADVISER OF THE EUROPEAN UNION’S MONITORING MISSION IN GEORGIA

On 9 October, Lithuanian official Darius Jurgelevičius starts his work as a senior political adviser of the European Union’s Monitoring Mission in Georgia.

The purpose of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia is to supervise how the Six-Point Ceasefire Agreement, including the pull-out of the Russian troops, is implemented and to promote in every possible way the normalization of the situation in Georgia.

The decision to launch this EU mission in Georgia was made on 1 September, during the extraordinary meeting of the European Council.

Since 1 October 7 representatives from the Lithuanian Police Department under the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Defense works in the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia.

At present, nine civilian missions in the framework of the European Security and Defense Policy and one mission of the European Commission is being implemented. 27 citizens of Lithuania take part in these missions.
