LITHUANIAN MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS LODGED A PROTEST TO BELARUSIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY

On 2 March Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Lithuanian representation in Minsk expressed its disapproval to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus concerning the spread fabrications on upheavals that are allegedly being prepared in Belarus.

Lithuanian Foreign Ministry draws attention to the fact that propaganda campaign that causes tension, and in which Lithuania has been repeatedly mentioned, undermines mutual understanding between the neighbouring states.

The election campaign in Belarus should provide conditions for independent candidates Aleksandr Milinkevich and Aleksandr Kozulin, free press and all Belarusian citizens to express freely their civic position and will.

The arrest of Belarusian presidential candidate Mr Kozulin involving the use of brutal physical force is an obvious violation of universally recognized human and civic rights and norms of democratic elections. Therefore Mr Kozulin has to regain immediately his freedom and possibilities to participate in the presidential election campaign on an equal basis with other candidates.
