LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: WE HAVE TO GIVE EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVES TO SERBIA

On 28 January in Brussels Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Petras Vaitiekūnas took part in the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council meeting and discussed the EU relations with Serbia and the elections in Serbia. While discussing the Serbian issue and the results of the first round of the Serbian presidential election week ago, the head of Lithuanian diplomacy emphasized that Serbia had to receive the right signal regarding the European perspectives and the EU should sign Stabilization and Association Agreement with the country. The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs also said that it was necessary that a dialogue with all the Western Balkan countries on the issue of visas should be opened up.

The heads of the EU diplomacy also discussed the Middle East Peace Process after the Anápolis and Paris conferences, the new international mechanism to support Palestine, the issues of Sudan and Central African Republic, Iran, situation in Pakistan, the political crisis in Lebanon and the situation in Kenya.

During the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council meeting, the head of Lithuanian diplomacy met with Estonian, Latvian, Polish, Swedish, and German Ministers of Foreign Affairs for bilateral conversations.
