LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS VISITED A HOSPITAL IN TBILISI
On 9 August, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas and Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili visited the Republican Tbilisi Hospital.
Minister P.Vaitiekūnas and President M.Saakashvili visited injured civilians, who are treated at the hospital.
‘The worst consequence of all military conflicts is injured civilians: children, women and old people. Therefore, I very much wanted to ask the Russian Government what was the purpose of this military action in Georgia that could justify for the victims and pain of innocent civilians,’ said Minister P.Vaitiekūnas.
During the meeting with Georgian President M.Saakashvili, head of Lithuanian diplomacy discussed the situation in Georgia and a possible assistance of Lithuania and the European Union.
On 11 August, Minister P.Vaitiekūnas will present his report on the situation in Georgia at an EU Informal Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Paris.
The next week in Brussels, where at the initiative of Lithuania a meeting of the EU Political and Security Committee will be organised, Lithuania will present a report on the situation in Georgia. Minister P.Vaitiekūnas plans to present this report also at the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council meeting in Brussels.
