LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: THE EUROPEAN UNION HAS TO STRENGTHEN ITS COOPERATION WITH THE U.S.A.
On 5 September, a two-day Informal Meeting of EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Gymnich) started in Avignon, France. On the first day of the meeting, heads of diplomacy of the EU Member States discussed the EU’s relations with the U.S.A. and the review of the implementation of the European Security Strategy.
‘Strengthening cooperation with the U.S.A is beneficial for the EU. It is especially important to develop a strategic dialogue and practical cooperation in such fields as mutual threat assessment and crisis management’, stressed Minister P.Vaitiekūnas at the meeting.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, the crisis in Georgia and dependence on a single supplier of energy resources increases the importance of the transatlantic dialogue.
While speaking about the review of the implementation of the European Security Strategy, the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy emphasized that it was necessary to pay more attention to energy security issues.
