LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS RECEIVED THE NEW AMBASSADORS OF JAPAN AND GREECE

On 8 July, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas received new Japanese Ambassador Miyoko Akashi. During the meeting, Foreign Minister P.Vaitiekūnas and Japanese Ambassador M.Akashi discussed important issues of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Japan. Foreign Minister informed about preparations for the ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Ministerial Meeting on Transport, which Lithuania intends to organise in autumn 2009, and invited Japan to take part in it.

The interlocutors also exchanged their opinions on important issues of international policy.

Japanese Ambassador M.Akashi presented credentials to President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus on 30 June.

Ambassador M.Akashi is the first Japanese Ambassador with residence in Lithuania. Earlier Japanese Ambassadors held residence in Copenhagen. Japanese Embassy in Lithuania opened in 1997.

Lithuania and Japan re-established diplomatic relations on 10 October 1991.

Greek Ambassador C. Catsambis and Minister of Foreign Affairs P. VaitiekūnasMinister of Foreign Affairs P.Vaitiekūnas received incoming Greek Ambassador Constantine Catsambis, with whom he discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Greece, and further perspectives of cooperation  between the two countries in the areas of politics, economy, culture, education and other.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister P.Vaitiekūnas highlighted the energy situation in Lithuania.

Ambassador C.Catsambis presented credentials to President of Lithuania V.Adamkus on 28 June.

Ambassador C.Catsambis is the second Ambassador of Greece, residing in Lithuania. The embassy of Greece was established in Lithuania on 30 January 2005.

Lithuania and Greece re-established diplomatic relations on 7 January.
