LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS NAMED MARSHALL CENTRE GRADUATE OF THE MONTH

George C.Marshall European Centre for Security Studies named Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas as the Graduate of the Month for August. Beginning with March 2007, every month G.C.Marshall European Centre for Security Studies features its most honoured alumni, who are creating stable and secure environment, promoting activity of democratic institutions, as well as active and peaceful security cooperation and enhancing long-term partnerships among the nations of North America, Europe, Eurasia, and the nations in other continents.

“I am pleased to state that since my studies at the Marshall Centre with young politicians pursuing ideals of freedom and democracy, the Baltic and Central European region has become an example of security, stability and successful reforms. I would like our success story to continue and hope that democracy, security and economic development open up for Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and that the nations of Afghanistan and Iraq would have the possibility to build their future in a secure environment,” – indicated the Head of Lithuanian diplomacy in his letter to G.C. Marshall centre.

In 1994, as senior assistant for Foreign Affairs to the President of Lithuania Algirdas Brazauskas, P.Vaitiekūnas attended a Marshall European Centre for Security Studies course at the College of Strategic Studies and Defense Economics.
