LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS MET WITH DANISH ARMED FORCES COMMANDER

On 19 September Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas met with Danish Armed Forces Commander Hans Jesper Helsø.

Minister thanked Danish Armed Forces Commander for the exceptional attention and support to Lithuania while integrating into the Euro-Atlantic community. P.Vaitiekūnas noted that relations between the two countries became even stronger, especially in the fields of security and defence, when Lithuania had become a member of NATO and the European Union.

“Denmark was one of the main helpers to prepare Lithuanian security and defence structures for the membership in the Alliance. Currently Lithuania itself helps countries like Georgia in its efforts for NATO membership” – Minister of Foreign Affairs P.Vaitiekūnas stressed.

Danish Armed Forces Commander emphasized the importance of long-term commitments by states and mutual cooperation.

“We are moving in the same direction and giving priorities to the same regions” – H.J.Helsø said.

During the meeting Minister P.Vaitiekūnas and Danish Armed Forces Commander also discussed cooperation between Lithuania and Denmark in Afghanistan and other international operations. Minister thanked for Danish help to Lithuanian led Ghor Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan where 11 Danish soldiers were stationed. During the meeting prospects of NATO Air Police Mission were also discussed.
