LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS IS VISITING BORDER CONTROL POINTS

On 12 October Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas is visiting Lithuanian border with Russia’s Kaliningrad Region at Kybartai, Ramoniškės and Panemunė border control points.

The purpose of the Minister’s visit is to get acquainted with the infrastructure of border control points and customs terminals, as the time is approaching when Lithuania joins the Schengen area. Together with the authorities of Border Police Checkpoint Brigades and customs offices Minister P.Vaitiekūnas will discuss the quality of functioning of border control points, as well as the demand for their development.

During the visit, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas will also meet with Šakiai Municipality Mayor Juozas Bertašius, Pagėgiai Municipality Mayor Kęstas Komskis and Vilkaviškis Municipality Deputy Mayor Jonas Meškauskas. During the meetings projects of Lithuanian border cooperation with the Kaliningrad Region and other important issues of border region are going to be discussed.

Minister P.Vaitkiekūnas will inform the authorities of the municipalities about the upcoming meeting of Lithuanian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission, which is due on 22-23 October in the Kaliningrad Region.
