LITHUANIAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS HAD A CONVERSATION WITH THE NATO LEADERSHIP
On 10 August, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas, who has been sent to Georgia by Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, had a telephone conversation with NATO Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bisogniero.
During the conversation, Foreign Minister P.Vaitiekūnas informed NATO Deputy Secretary General C.Bisogniero about the present critical situation in Georgia.
Minister informed the NATO leadership that the international community had to take prompt action, as there was no time to wait, while civilians were perishing.
In the opinion of the Foreign Minister, the international community has to clearly name and condemn the aggression against Georgia, so that Russia would halt its military actions, because Georgia has fully pulled its troops out of South Ossetia.
It is necessary to address Russia at the highest level and to inform it that Georgia has pulled its troops out of South Ossetia. Georgia is failing to communicate directly with the Russian Government.
On 13 August, Minister P.Vaitiekūnas intends to present Lithuania’s report on the situation in Georgia at the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council meeting in Brussels.
