LITHUANIAN INSTITUTIONS PARTICIPATE IN THE ANNUAL NATO CRISIS MANAGEMENT EXERCISE CMX-12

Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with other state institutions, is attending the annual NATO Crisis Management Exercise (CMX-12) and NATO cyber defence exercise “Cyber Coalition 12” between 12 and 16 November 2012.

The purpose of both exercises is to test the Alliance’s technical and operational cyber defence capabilities, as well as the effectiveness and efficiency of collaborative cyber defence procedures and capabilities.

“One of NATO’s fundamental principles is collective defence. However, consultations and cooperation in crisis situations are also important. The Alliance consists of 28 independent member countries, where different languages are spoken. Therefore, the Crisis Management Exercise presents a great opportunity to not only to check the crisis management procedures within the country working with NATO, but also to learn to collaborate smoothly and effectively with others,” Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis said.

The exercises will be attended by the 28 member countries of the Alliance, NATO bodies and officials – a total of 2,500 military and civilian personnel, as well as by partner countries: Finland, Sweden, European External Action Service, and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. This is already the 18th CMX exercise since 1992. Lithuania is participating in the exercise for the 6th time.
