LITHUANIAN-INDIAN BILATERAL RELATIONS BECOME CLOSER

On 5 October Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh who pays a visit to Lithuania and discussed bilateral Lithuanian-Indian relations.

In the meeting draft bilateral agreements on double taxation avoidance, investment promotion and protection, extradition were discussed, the possibilities of diplomatic representations establishment were considered. Special attention was paid to the consular issues in view of the perspectives of Lithuania joining the Shengen area.

Indian Minister of State for External Affairs thanked Lithuania for supporting India’s Brazil’s, Japan’s and Germany’s resolution project on UN Security Council reform.  

During his visit Indian Minister of State for External Affairs also met with Deputy Chairman of the Seimas Gintaras Steponavičius. Meetings with the Rector of Vilnius University acad. Benediktas Juodka, students and professors of Vilnius University Centre of Oriental Studies are also scheduled.

This visit of Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh is the second visit of Indian official of such rank to Lithuania after the establishment of diplomatic relations with India on 27 April, 1992.

Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh invited Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis to visit India.
