LITHUANIAN-GERMAN BILATERAL COOPERATION ENHANCED

On 3 February in Berlin Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with the new German Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier and discussed topical issues and perspectives of bilateral relations.

This is the first meeting of Lithuanian and German foreign ministers after parliamentary elections and the new government formation in Germany.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister informed Mr Steinmeier about Lithuania’s aim to introduce the euro and join the Schengen Agreement in 2007.

The ministers also exchanged opinions on cooperation with Ukraine and Georgia.

Minister Valionis invited German Foreign Minister to take part in the Baltic-Black Sea Region Summit on 4-5 May in Vilnius
