LITHUANIAN-GEORGIAN BILATERAL POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS ORGANIZED IN TBILISI
On 26-28 March in Tbilisi the Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Laimonas Talat-Kelpša participates in the bilateral political consultations with Georgian Vice-Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence, Deputy Minister of State for Conflict Settlement, Secretary of Georgia's National Security Council and country’s State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. During the bilateral political consultations the agenda of bilateral meetings and Lithuania’s support for Georgia in the implementation of the European Union European Neighbourhood Policy Action Plan were discussed. Concrete projects in priority areas, i.e., border security and standardization were presented to Georgia that seeks to ensure its territorial integrity and enhance economic cooperation with the Western countries.
The experts of Lithuanian delegation from the Border Security Service and Standardization Department met with representatives from respective Georgian institutions and discussed implementation details of the projects, as well as further cooperation plans.
Lithuanian delegation also met with Lithuanian representatives working in the EU Special Representative’s expert group dealing with border issues, exchanged opinions on the situation in the country and shared ideas on the potential Lithuania’s input into the current border security sector reforms.
On 27 March the Undersecretary of Lithuanian Foreign Ministry also participated in the meeting of the Group of New Friends of Georgia, during which the representatives from Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic discussed the issues that are currently the most important for Georgia, as well as the issues on the international agenda. Lithuanian representatives agreed to organise the next ministerial meeting of the Group this autumn in Vilnius.
