LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER THANKED THE GUEST OF A FILM FESTIVAL IN VILNIUS FOR HIS ATTENTION TO LITHUANIA

On 25 October, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with filmmaker Rick Goldsmith, who is paying a visit to Vilnius. His Oscar-nominated documentary “The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers” is presented at the Ad Hoc: Inconvenient Films festival.

Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė said that the issues raised at this film festival - human rights, democracy, public spirit and tolerance – were very important. She welcomed the festival’s efforts to raise awareness on those issues within the Lithuanian society by presenting various documentaries.

“We are delighted that prominent Litvaks make Lithuania world famous. Lithuania is proud of hundreds of world famous personalities with family roots in this country. We hope that your visit will not only revive and strengthen your ties with the ancestral land, but will also give new impetus to work more closely with filmmakers in Lithuania,” the Vice-Minister said.

The Vice-Minister told the guest about the efforts of the Government of Lithuania to preserve the Litvak heritage, to promote deeper research into the history, culture and religion of the Lithuanian Jewry, to foster the tradition of harmonious ethnic coexistence in Lithuania and to maintain close ties with the Diaspora of Litvaks living abroad.

The grandparents of R.Goldsmith were Lithuanian Jews, who left from Kaunas in the beginning of the twentieth century. His production company is called Kovno Communications.
