LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER RECEIVES THE NEW AMBASSADOR OF ANGOLA, DISCUSSES POSSIBILITIES FOR STRENGTHENING BILATERAL COOPERATION
On 3 October, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with the new Angolan Ambassador to Lithuania Brito António Sozinho and discussed with him possibilities for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Skaisgirytė Liauškienė briefed the Ambassador about Lithuania’s forthcoming Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2013 and noted that the Lithuanian Presidency would aim to play a more active role in the EU’s policies towards Africa.
The Vice-Minister of Lithuania emphasized her wish to promote cultural exchanges with Angola and invited the country’s Embassy to participate in the upcoming cultural festival “Africa Days 2013” in Lithuania this spring.
The meeting also discussed perspectives of closer cooperation in multilateral forums, especially in the United Nations.
Angola is the second-largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa after Nigeria and an important partner of the European Union in the region.
Lithuania and Angola established diplomatic relations on 4 June 2002. The Ambassador of Angola resides in Stockholm.
