LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER RECEIVES NEW GUATEMALAN AMBASSADOR
On 18 October in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrius Krivas on behalf of the Lithuanian Foreign Minister received the new Ambassador of Guatemala to Lithuania Jorge Ricardo Putzeys Uriguen. The Guatemalan Ambassador is preparing to present his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, so the guest handed in a copy to the Foreign Vice-Minister. The copy is addressed to the Lithuanian Foreign Minister. A.Krivas congratulated the diplomat on his appointment and wished him good luck for carrying out his assigned duties.
The Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Guatemala as well as cooperation between the European Union and Central American countries. The Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council contributes to strengthening this cooperation.
The diplomats also discussed cooperation in international organizations. A.Krivas welcomed Lithuania’s election to the United Nations Security Council and thanked Guatemala for its support. On 17 October, Lithuania won a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the period 2014-2015. Lithuania was voted on by 187 countries.
The Ambassador Jorge Ricardo Putzeys Uriguen resides in Stockholm, Sweden. Lithuania and Guatemala established diplomatic relations on 14 December 1993.
