LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER PARTICIPATES IN BILATERAL CONSULTATIONS IN JAPAN
On 28 September in Tokyo, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Egidijus Meilūnas and Ryuji Yamane, Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, discussed important issues of bilateral cooperation.
The participants of the meeting stressed that the bilateral cooperation was intensifying and expressed hope that these mutual ties would continue to strengthen in the future. The Lithuanian and Japanese diplomats agreed that a partnership in the nuclear field would have a positive impact on the further development of the relationship between the two countries.
Meilūnas pointed out that Lithuania supported the EU’s initiative to negotiate the economic partnership agreement with Japan. According to the Vice-Minister, this will also have a positive effect on the economic ties between the two of the largest of the world’s economies.
During the consultations, the representatives of the Lithuanian and Japanese Foreign Ministries also discussed the following important nowadays issues: directions of energy policy and possibilities of cooperation in international organizations, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
