Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister meets with Tunisia’s Ambassador

On 15 March, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Albinas Zananavičius met with Tunisia’s new Ambassador to Lithuania Sghaier Fatnassi, who arrived to present his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.

Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister welcomed Tunisia’s success in transition to democracy, to which Lithuania had also contributed through development cooperation projects. The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2015 for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in the country.

According to Zananavičius, Lithuania will now have more opportunities to develop relations with Tunisia. The Honorary Consuls in the cities of Tunis and Sousse that were appointed by Lithuania in 2017 will significantly contribute to the advancement of bilateral political relations, implementation of cultural projects and active representation of Lithuania’s business interests. This year, the countries also plan to hold the first bilateral political consultations and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a mechanism for bilateral consultations.

The meeting will also discuss the EU-Tunisia relations, cooperation within the United Nations and other international organizations, and issues related to the international agenda.

The Ambassador Sghaier Fatnassi is Tunisia’s fifth Ambassador accredited to Lithuania, who resides in Warsaw. Lithuania and Tunisia established their diplomatic relations 25 years ago, on 30 June 1992.
