LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER MEETS WITH MONGOLIAN OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS BILATERAL ECONOMIC COOPERATION

On 16 April in Ulan Bator, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and Tenger Gonchigzeveg, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia, discussed Lithuanian-Mongolian bilateral cooperation and stressed the importance of further strengthening the economic partnership.

Mongolia suggests using its economic growth to promote export of Lithuanian goods and services. At the meeting, participants were also acquainted with the potential of Lithuanian infrastructure.

The conversation with Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia Purevsuren Lundeg also focused on the same subject. According to him, Mongolia is interested in transporting natural resources to Europe via the Klaipėda Seaport. Therefore, it was suggested to make use of the container trains “Viking” and “Mongolian Vector” for that purpose.

During the meeting with Minister of Nature, Environment and Tourism of Mongolia Damdin Tsogtbaatar, Lithuanian entrepreneurs presented concrete projects for cooperation in the spheres of environment protection, tourism and the implementation of ISO standards. The Minister was also invited to the International Trade Fair of Tourism “Vivattur 2013” in Lithuania.

Lithuanian delegation also participated in the opening of a seminar for Afghan diplomats, which was co-organized by the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). In her welcome speech, Skaisgirytė Liauškienė stressed the significance of the Mongolian-Lithuanian cooperation to convey democratic values and to share the best diplomatic experience with young Afghani diplomats.

The Lithuanian business forum that is organized by the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry opens on 17 April. At the forum, potential partners will receive tender offers from Lithuanian companies working in the fields of business consulting, banking technology, higher education, environment protection, certification and food industry.
