LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER EMPHASIZES SUCCESSFUL BILATERAL COOPERATION AND THANKS PORTUGAL FOR ITS SUPPORT TO LITHUANIA
On 22 November at the event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations of Lithuania and Portugal in Vilnius, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Egidijus Meilūnas emphasized successful bilateral cooperation and thanked Portugal for its support to Lithuania.
“We would like to sincerely thank Portugal, which has never recognized the annexation of Lithuania and supported our country’s goal to regain independence,” said the Vice-Minister.According to E.Meilūnas, although both countries are geographically distant, the last two decades of bilateral relations have been marked by our partnership, friendly relations and intensified cooperation.
During the event, Portuguese jazz musicians - vocalist Maria João and pianist Mário Laginha – gave a performance.
Portugal recognized Lithuania de jure on 3 May 1923. Lithuania and Portugal re-established diplomatic relations on 4 October 1991.
