Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister discusses bilateral cooperation with Ireland’s Ambassador

On 6 February, the Vice-Minister Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas met with the Ambassador of Ireland to Lithuania David Noonan. In the meeting, the officials discussed bilateral cooperation, issues related to the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union, relations with Russia and situation in Ukraine.

“We welcome the excellent political relations that are enjoyed by Lithuania and Ireland. We hold the same opinion on many issues and we will continue to seek to maintain strong bilateral and multilateral cooperation between our countries also in the future,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister.

The interlocutors agreed that the European unity and joint efforts were very much needed. This is particularly important in the run-up to elections in the EU member states and when preparing for negotiations on the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU. The Irish Ambassador said that although all countries would feel the consequences of the UK’s withdrawal for the EU, the issue was currently among the most important ones for Ireland.

In the meeting, the officials noted that the two countries held the same positions toward the situation in Ukraine and relations with Russia.

Germanas also welcomed a substantive bilateral dialogue and expressed his willingness to continue to cooperate and share his experiences with his Irish counterparts.
