LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER CHAIRS THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING OF NATO ENERGY SECURITY CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

On 27-28 February, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Rolandas Kriščiūnas is chairing the Executive Committee meeting of the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (NATO ENSEC COE) in Vilnius.

Participants of the meeting are making decisions on the possibilities of cooperation with other international organisations, universities, non-governmental organizations and partners. The meeting will adopt the programme of the NATO ENSEC COE activities for 2013, and discuss further activities and future research directions.

This is the first Executive Committee meeting held after the North Atlantic Council granted the status of the NATO Centre of Excellence to the Energy Security Centre under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania on 12 October 2012 and the centre attained the status of NATO’s international military organisation.

The meeting is attended by representatives from all the founding countries of the NATO ENSEC COE: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Turkey, Italy and France. Representatives of Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States are also participating, because these countries are interested in the opportunity to engage in the centre’s activities.

The Headquarters of the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence are located at the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania. The international staff team consists of representatives of all the countries that engage in the activities of the ENSEC COE. The Centre is run by the delegate of the Ministry of National Defence Colonel Romualdas Petkevičius.
