Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister briefs Swedish parliamentarians on region’s security situation

On 5 October 2015, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas received representatives of the Baltic Network of Swedish Riksdag (Parliament).

The meeting focused on the region’s security environment. The participants exchanged views on Ukraine’s situation and relations with Russia, discussed possibilities for cooperation between Lithuania and Sweden to support Ukraine’s reform process and the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

“The sanctions policy towards Russia must be further directly linked to the full implementation of the Minsk agreements. At the same time we must give a principled assessment of such Russian actions, as the annexation of Crimea, the future of Nadiya Savchenko, Oleh Sentsov and other Ukrainian citizens detained and tried in Russia, an objective investigation into the tragedy of a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet and other aspects of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine,” said Vice-Minister.

Sweden’s representatives also took interest in the progress of the implementation of Lithuania’s energy infrastructure projects. Krivas informed them that the project of the Nordbalt power iterconnection with Sweden had entered its final phase and was to be inaugurated on 14 December this year.
