LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER BADE FAREWELL TO THE OUTGOING AMBASSADOR OF MEXICO TO LITHUANIA

On 29 March in Vilnius, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Egidijus Meilūnas received the outgoing Ambassador of Mexico to Lithuania Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno.Vice-Minister E.Meilūnas thanked the Ambassador for the contribution to fostering friendly ties between Lithuania and Mexico over the past year and noted that this year the countries would mark the twentieth anniversary of the re-establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. On this occasion, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation the Mexican Embassy is planning to organize an exhibition of Mexican artist Jose Posada in Vilnius.

Vice-Minister E.Meilūnas and Ambassador N.B.Pensado Moreno discussed possibilities of closer cooperation between Lithuania and Mexico in the spheres of culture and education, sports and tourism, and to promote bilateral economic relations.

In 2010, the trade turnover between Lithuania and Mexico amounted to 139.5 million Litas (40.40 million EUR). Lithuania’s exports to Mexico amounted to 39.6 million Litas (11.47 million EUR) and, compared with 2009, decreased by 39 percent. Lithuania’s imports from Mexico amounted to 99.9 million Litas (28.93 million EUR) and, compared with 2009, increased by 36 percent. In 2010, Lithuania’s trade balance with Mexico was negative and amounted to 60.3 million Litas (17.46 million EUR).

Since Lithuania’s joining the European Union in 2004, the foreign trade between Lithuania and Mexico has increased by six times.

Mexico’s diplomatic representatives to Lithuania reside in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
