Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister discuss bilateral cooperation

On 6 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Dilyor Khakimov, who is currently visiting Vilnius.

During the meeting, Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister discussed bilateral trade and economic cooperation, expressed their interest in further advancement of cooperation in such fields as transport, academic exchanges, health protection; they exchanged views on security situation and opportunities for regional cooperation in Central Asia.

The officials highlighted the need to more fully exploit the existing potential of bilateral investment, science and technology, agriculture, etc. They also discussed preparations for the next session of the Lithuania-Uzbekistan intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation to be held early next year, the EU-Uzbekistan cooperation and dialogue, possibilities for development and enhancement of the legal framework for cooperation between Lithuania and Uzbekistan.

Vice-Minister Krivas said that now Uzbekistan was Lithuania’s important economic partner in the Central Asia region.

In Lithuania, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khakimov will also meet with representatives of the Seimas (Parliament), governmental institutions and business.
