LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND UKRAINIAN AMBASSADOR DISCUSS PROMOTING ECONOMIC COOPERATION
On 10 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Rolandas Kriščiūnas met with Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania Valery Zhovtenko and discussed preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius as well as issues related to bilateral economic and energy cooperation.
The Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister noted that the entry into force of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement would have a positive impact on the development of bilateral trade and economic relations between Lithuanian and Ukraine, and on Ukraine’s enhanced economic relations with all EU Member States. The countries plan to sign the agreement during the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in November in Vilnius, if Ukraine meets the criteria set out by the Foreign Affairs Council in December 2012.
The EU has agreed on the scope of the provisional application of the Association Agreement with Ukraine, which includes the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. It will be possible immediately after Ukraine completes all internal procedures without waiting for the ratification by the national parliaments of the EU Member States.
