LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND THE NEW CHINESE AMBASSADOR DISCUSS KEY ISSUES OF BILATERAL COOPERATION

On 14 February, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and the new Ambassador of China to Lithuania Liu Zengwen discussed key issues of bilateral cooperation and prospects for an economic partnership. They agreed to actively develop economic cooperation and to aim to increase export volumes of Lithuanian goods, to strengthen relations in the field of transport and to develop people-to-people contacts.

An active partnership between Lithuania and China ensured the achievement of concrete results in bilateral and multilateral cooperation. A good example of this was the Lithuania-China initiative to open a dialogue for transport issues under the framework of Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

The Lithuanian Vice-Minister stressed the latest outcome of this initiative – the implementation of the project of the shuttle train Saulė that connects Asia and Europe.

Liu Zengwen, who has been in the diplomatic service since 1981, is the eighth Ambassador of China who resides in Lithuania. He was transferred to Vilnius from the embassy in Romania.

On 7 February, Liu Zengwen presented his credentials to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė. Lithuania and China established diplomatic relations on 14 October 1991.
