LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND THE FIRST AMBASSADOR OF LAOS TO LITHUANIA AGREE TO FURTHER DEVELOP BILATERAL RELATIONS
Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė discussed the further development of the bilateral relations with the first Ambassador of Laos to Lithuania Khamvone Phanouvong, who presented the letters of credence to the President of Lithuania on 29 August.
The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania encouraged the students from Laos to study in the higher schools of Lithuania.
The Ambassador of Laos and the Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister discussed the prospects of partnership in the multilateral cooperation forums. Lithuania and Laos are members of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). On 5-6 November Laos will host the 9th Asia-Europe Summit of the Heads of State and Government “Friends for Peace, Partners for Prosperity”. Asian and European leaders will discuss political, security issues, economic cooperation and other topical issues.
The Foreign Vice-Minister presented to the Ambassador of Laos the transport dimension as Lithuanian priority in the ASEM forum. The officials also discussed the last ASEM Transport Ministers’ Meetings held in Vilnius and Chengdu, China.
Laos recognised Lithuania on 20 September, 1991. Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Laos on 1 September, 1994. The Ambassador of Laos resides in Berlin.
