Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister and Secretary-General of Community of Democracies discuss options to strengthen work on gender equality
On 30 January in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Neris Germanas met with the Secretary-General of the Community of Democracies Maria Leissner. The conversation focused on cooperation aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for men and women, and sharing Lithuania’s experience with young democracies.
During the visit to Vilnius, M.Leissner also met with the Vice-Minister of Social Security and Labour Gintaras Klimavičius, the Director of the European Institute for Gender Equality Virginija Langbakk and the Director of the Gender Studies Centre at Vilnius University Dalia Leinartė, visited the Office of the President and the Secretariat of the Community of Democracies’ Parliamentary Forum for Democracy.
Lithuania chairs the Community of Democracies’ Working Group on Women and Democracy, therefore, considerable attention during the visit was given to further activities and a the joint initiative of holding an International Conference on enhancing the role of women in strengthening democracy in Vilnius.
