LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND PRESIDENT OF THE LANDTAG OF THE GERMAN STATE OF HESSE DISCUSS BILATERAL RELATIONS

On 17 October in Vilnius, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with President of the Landtag (State Parliament) of the German State of Hesse Norbert Kartmann and discussed with him bilateral relations in the political, economic and cultural fields.

“This year marks the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Lithuanian-German diplomatic relations. This is a great opportunity to encourage the society in Lithuania and in the State of Hesse to more actively avail of the opportunities for cooperation. We are interested in advancing the development of economic and cultural relations,” said A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė.

The Vice-Minister thanked the German State of Hesse for the support to the 16 February Gymnasium in Huttenfeld.

According to A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, today the Gymnasium is a hub for education and culture in Germany, and also a wonderful example of a long-term and harmonious cooperation between Lithuanian and German politicians, people in culture, educators and public figures.

N.Kartmann stressed that the State of Hesse and Lithuania had enjoyed very intensive relations since 1994. He drew attention to the established cultural ties and highlighted the importance of 16 February Gymnasium.

The guest invited the Vice-Minister to visit Wiesbaden, the state capital of Hesse.

From 17 to 19 October, President of the Landtag of the German State of Hesse is paying a visit to Lithuania at the invitation of Speaker of the Seimas (Parliament) Irena Degutienė.
