LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND PARAGUAY’S FIRST AMBASSADOR TO LITHUANIA DISCUSS BILATERAL RELATIONS AND LITHUANIA’S UPCOMING PRESIDENCY OF THE EU COUNCIL

On 8 October in Vilnius, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with the new Ambassador of Paraguay to Lithuania Raúl Alberto Florentin Antola and discussed with him prospects for the development of bilateral relations, cooperation in international organisations, the role of Paraguay in regional Latin American organisations and its relations with other Latin American countries.

The Vice-Minister presented to the Ambassador of Paraguay Lithuania’s readiness to hold the Presidency of the EU Council and political priorities of the presidency. They discussed important issues of regional EU-Latin America cooperation and preparations for the CELAC-EU Summit that is scheduled on 26-27 January 2013 in Santiago de Chile.  

The Paraguayan Ambassador, who resides in Germany, presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 8 October. Raúl Alberto Florentin Antola is the Paraguay’s first Ambassador to Lithuania.

In 1923, Paraguay recognized the independence of Lithuania. Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Paraguay were established in 1931 and re-established on 3 March 1993.
