Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister and Mali’s Ambassador discuss Lithuania’s participation in EU training mission in Mali

On 18 June in Vilnius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas and Mali’s new Ambassador to Lithuania Ba Hawa Keita discussed Lithuania’s participation in the EU training mission in Mali. The Ambassador thanked Lithuania for its contribution - the training and assistance for reorganising the Malian Armed Forces.

N.Germanas underlined that Lithuania, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, was attentively following the developments in the region. The Vice-Minister expressed hope that Mali would be able to prevent escalation of the armed conflict in northern Mali and that the conflicting parties would immediately sit down at the negotiating table without preconditions.

Lithuania has participated in the EU training mission in Mali since 2013. Two Lithuanian instructors serve in the Finnish-led Nordic-Baltic training team at the Koulikoro Warfare Training Centre. Yet another Lithuanian officer serves at the headquarters in the capital Bamako.

Mali’s Ambassador, who resides in Berlin, presented her letters of credence letters to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on 18 June.
