LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND INDIAN DELEGATION DISCUSS THE ADVANCEMENT OF BILATERAL TIES AND COOPERATION IN INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS
On 24 October, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Neris Germanas met with the delegation of diplomats from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, who are paying a visit to Lithuania. The delegation is led by Rahul Chhabra, Joint Secretary of the Central Europe Division. The aim of the visit was to hold bilateral political consultations between Lithuania and India.
The meeting discussed diplomatic relations between Lithuania and India that had been actively developed since their establishment more than 20 years ago. The sides agreed to intensify mutual dialogue in many fields, such as politics, economics, culture, and science.
The Lithuanian Vice-Minister noted that Lithuania was looking forward to the opening of India’s representation in Vilnius. Lithuanian Embassy in India was opened in 2008.
The diplomats also discussed the countries’ cooperation within international organisations. N.Germanas expressed gladness that Lithuania had won a seat on the United Nations Security Council in last week’s elections and thanked India for its support.
The 6th bilateral political consultations focused on opportunities to intensify relations in the political, economic, and cultural areas. The diplomats discussed cooperation within international organisations, the EU’s and Indian policies, relations with neighbouring countries, and global policy issues.
Lithuania and India established diplomatic relations on 27 April 1992.
