LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND GERMANY’S NEW MINISTER OF STATE FOR EUROPEAN AFFAIRS DISCUSS ITEMS ON EU AGENDA

On 18 December in Berlin, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Vytautas Leškevičius had bilateral consultations with the newly appointed Minister of State for European Affairs at the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany to discuss the key items on the EU agenda.

The German Minister of State for European Affairs underlined that the new Government would not alter the foreign and European policy. According to him, further attention will be given to the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union, EU enlargement in the Western Balkans, and cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries.

When discussing the situation in Ukraine after the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, both officials stressed that the door of the European Union remained open to Ukraine.

According to M.Roth, Germany welcomes the intensive and fruitful cooperation with Lithuania. He also thanked Lithuania’s successful Presidency of the EU Council and noted that during this period the Lithuanian EU Presidency had managed to address many issues, which were important to the EU as a whole.
