LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER AND FOREIGN MINISTER OF THAILAND DISCUSS BILATERAL COOPERATION
On 16 February, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Evaldas Ignatavičius and Foreign Minister of Thailand Surapong Tovichakchaikul discussed bilateral cooperation, celebration of the upcoming 20th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2013, economic relations, bilateral agreements that are currently being drafted, promotion of tourism and student exchange.
Thai Foreign Minister highlighted Lithuanian’s very successful Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Presidency of the Community of Democracies, and promised to actively cooperate with Lithuania, which this year holds the chair of the OSCE Contact Group with the Partners for Co-operation in Asia.At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed possible closer cooperation between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Nordic Baltic Eight (NB8). This year, Lithuania is coordinating the Nordic-Baltic cooperation.
Ignatavičius also took part in bilateral political consultations with Thai Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkaew.
On the same day, Ignatavičius met with Thai Minister of Culture Sukumol Kunplome. At the meeting with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, the Vice-Minister discussed prospects for closer economic cooperation.
