Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister and Ethiopia’s new Ambassador discussed prospects for bilateral relations
On 30 June in Vilnius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas and Ethiopia’s new Ambassador to Lithuania Teshome Toga Chanaka discussed prospects for bilateral relations and Lithuania’s contribution to the resolution of problems in Africa.
The Foreign Vice-Minister highlighted Lithuania’s increasing interest in Africa, especially after the country was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Lithuania is interested in the development of official, business and people-to-people contacts with Ethiopia, and is ready to actively share its experience of implementing economic and democratic reforms.
The Ambassador thanked Lithuania for its activity in the UN Security Council, support for South Sudanese peace talks and contribution to the European Development Fund, which provides aid to Ethiopia. According to the Ambassador, the visit of the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius to Addis Abeba this May was an important diplomatic step in the development of bilateral relations.
On 30 June, the Ethiopian Ambassador Teshome Toga Chanaka, who resides in Brussels, presented his letters of credence to the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.
Lithuania and Ethiopia established diplomatic relations in 1998.
