Lithuanian Foreign Ministry’s statement on Ukraine
Lithuanian Foreign Ministry supports the peace plan called “Steps toward a peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukrainian regions” put forward by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. The implementation of this plan would contribute to the settlement of the situation in eastern parts of Ukraine and would help to stop the months-long violence, as well as deaths of people in eastern Ukraine.
We call on all sides in the conflict to constructively cooperate in implementing important measures provided by this plan, such as disarmament, release of all hostages, vacation of occupied buildings and peaceful negotiations. Once again we call on Russia to prevent Russian weapons and armed Russian citizens from entering the territory of eastern Ukraine through the Russian-Ukrainian border.
We are particularly concerned at the reported Russia’s military build-up along the Ukrainian border and the Ukrainian Defence Ministry’s information about the Russian military equipment amassed in the Luhansk region. We call on the Russian leadership to support the peace plan put forward by Ukraine’s President and to contribute to the peaceful settlement of the situation.
