LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY HOSTS A MEETING WITH FAMOUS MALIAN ARTIST, SCHOLAR AND FRANCOPHONE GAOUSSOU DIAWARA

On 19 March, on the occasion of the International Day of Francophonie, Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts a meeting with Professor Gaoussou Diawara, a famous Malian artist, scholar and Francophone.

Each year, 220 million speakers of the French language and 870 million fans of French culture in the 75 member countries of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF) are celebrating the International Day of Francophonie on 20 March.

Events of the Days of Francophonie aim to more closely acquaint with the culture of France and other French-speaking countries.

On this occasion, Diawara is paying a visit to Lithuania at a special invitation of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Professor will acquaint participants of the event with the most important aspects of Malian culture, will share his rich experience of the promotion of French culture with the audience and will answer questions.

Participants of the event will have an opportunity to listen to the songs in the French and Bambara languages that will be performed by Victor Diawara, the son of the Professor, and to view an exhibition of works of art by Malian artists.

Professor Diawara is an honoured Malian writer, who has published many collections of poetry, plays, novels, short stories and essays. He is a winner of the Radio France Internationale theatre prize.

This Malian public figure is also an active member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie. Together with the Malian delegation, the Professor regularly participates in the meetings of heads of states of the member countries of the organisation and in other events, which promote multiculturalism, human rights and peace.

Lithuania became an observer of the International Organisation of La Francophonie in 1999.
