LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY CONDEMNS ARRESTS OF PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATORS IN MINSK

Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns arrests of peaceful demonstrators in Minsk and is confident that Belarusian authorities should ensure all citizens’ freedom of speech and freedom of peaceful assembly.

The Ministry is especially concerned about the arrests of the former presidential candidate Alexander Kozulin and the leaders of other candidate’s Alexander  Milinkevich’s election headquarters.

Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Belarusian authorities to release all the persons arrested and to guarantee that no restrictions on people’s freedom and civic right to express their thoughts are imposed in the future.

We hope that Belarus would take into consideration that Austrian Presidency of the EU also demanded to release the arrested persons. That would correspond to the main principles of relations between the government and society confirmed by the international community.
