LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER’S MEETING WITH SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF MOROCCO FOCUSES ON NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR COOPERATION
On 29 November in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius held a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Morocco Karim Ghellab to discuss intensifying relations between the two countries, highlighted the need of a new impetus for cooperation, and underlined that regular bilateral political consultations would serve to this end.
According to the representative of Morocco, there is a lot of untapped potential for cooperation despite the geographical distance. K.Ghellab argues that the trading volume is not very high, but shows a growing trend.
The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy welcomed ongoing reforms in Morocco, good results of negotiations between the EU and Morocco for a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, and new possibilities following the signing of a joint declaration establishing a mobility partnership between the EU and Morocco. The Speaker of the House of Representatives also hailed positive dynamics in relations with the EU and stressed the importance of the EU’s role in strengthening regional security.
L.Linkevičius highlighted the good results of the Lithuania-Morocco multilateral cooperation and thanked for the country’s support for Lithuania’s bid for a seat on the UN Security Council.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Morocco K.Ghellab came to Lithuania to take part in the Parliamentary Forum for Democracy “Parliaments for democracy: towards more ambitious global cooperation.”
