Lithuanian Foreign Minister will take part in the opening ceremony of a NATO Contact Point Embassy to Ukraine in Kiev

On 28 January, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius will take part in the events devoted to the opening of the Lithuanian Embassy, which will serve as a NATO Contact Point Embassy in Ukraine. On his visit in Kiev he will discuss cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine and the situation in the country with the representatives of the Ukrainian authorities.

The Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine will serve as a NATO contact point (CPE) from 2015 to 2017. CPE will provide information on the purpose and activities of the Alliance in the host country, organise educational events, cooperate with the local press, public authorities and non-governmental organisations. The Lithuanian CPE is going to focus on working with the regions of Ukraine.

Lithuanian Embassy will take over the functions of a CPE from the Embassy of Poland in Ukraine, which had served as a CPE for the past two years.

Previously Lithuania has served as a NATO Contact Point Embassy in Sweden (2013–2014), in Georgia (2011–2012), in Moldova (2009–2010) and Belarus (2004–2010).
