On 21 September, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis was first to congratulate his Latvian counterpart Sandra Kalniete on the positive outcome of the EU referendum in Latvia.
“The people of Latvia confirmed our joint vision of the enlarged Europe and successfully finalised the chain of referenda in the candidate countries,” the Chief of the Lithuanian Diplomacy said to Minister Kalniete over their telephone conversation.
Minister Valionis also underlined that Lithuania and Latvia had established “excellent and promising relations”.
“I truly believe that the membership of our countries in the EU will provide an even stronger framework for the cooperation between Lithuania and Latvia on bilateral and multilateral level as well,” Minister Valionis said.
