LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER VISITS SPAIN

The Chief of Lithuanian Diplomacy Antanas Valionis visited Seville (Spain), where a Summit of the European Union took place on 21-22 June. On 20-21 June, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister participated in preparatory meetings with high officials of Denmark, Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU, who had been taking part in the Congress of European Liberal Democrat Leaders. At the Congress, the agenda of the Seville Summit was discussed. The Chief of Lithuanian Diplomacy Valionis also met with President of the European Commission Romano Prodi and discussed the issues of the Kaliningrad Region of Russia. On 21 June, Minister Antanas Valionis met with President of Andalusia Region (Spain) Manuel Chaves. Both officials exchanged opinions on the ongoing European Summit, Lithuanian-Spanish relations as well as possibilities of developing commercial and cultural ties with the Andalusian Region. Minister Valionis invited the President of Andalusia to pay a visit to Lithuania and to share the Region’s experience of administering EU structural funds. On 22 June, Minister Antanas Valionis joined the delegation of President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus at the EU Summit.
