LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TO PARTICIPATE IN OSCE MINISTERIAL COUNCIL MEETING IN SOFIA

On 6-7th December, Lithuanian acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis participates in 12th Ministerial Council meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Sofia, Bulgaria. On Lithuanian Foreign Minister’s agenda bilateral meetings with his Ukrainian, Russian, Georgian and Moldavian counterparts are scheduled. 55 ministers of foreign affairs and other high officials participating in the OSCE Council are planning to adopt a package of documents concerning such issues as terrorism prevention, fight with corruption and human trafficking, tolerance and further strengthening of the organisation. The ministers will also discuss the settlement of conflicts in Georgia and Moldova and the fulfilment of obligations assumed in 1999 during the meeting of the Heads of OSCE member states in Istanbul. During the meeting in Sofia special attention will be paid to the situation in Ukraine. OSCE General Secretary Jan Kubiš mediates in handling the crisis in this country together with the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and the President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski.
