LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TO OPEN AN EXHIBITION DEVOTED TO LITHUANIA’S DIPLOMATIC SERVICE DURING THE INTERWAR PERIOD

On 1 March, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis is to open an exhibition “Lithuanian diplomatic service in 1918-1940” at the National Museum of Lithuania.

The exhibition consists of photographs of Lithuania’s first diplomats, portraits, awards and documents reflecting the most important events during this historical time period. The exhibition will also include furniture, signboards of Lithuanian legations and personal belongings of diplomats.

Visitors will be offered an opportunity to see the showpieces from collections stored at the Lithuanian Central State Archive, Martynas Mažvydas National Library, Lithuanian World Archives and National Museum of Lithuania.

One of the highlights is a historical painting “Vytautas the Great in Lutsk” by Stasys Ušinskas, which was specifically painted for the 1939 New York World’s Fair and in a way represents  the origins of Lithuanian diplomacy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiated the return of objects of the Lithuanian diplomatic heritage abroad thus contributing to the exhibition.
