LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TO DISCUSS WITH UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT AND FOREIGN MINISTER THE DEVELOPMENT OF EU-UKRAINE RELATIONS IN KIEV
On 13 April, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs who paid a visit to Kiev met with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk.
During the meetings the development of EU-Ukraine relations and European Neighbourhood Policy cooperation perspectives were discussed. Speaking with the President and Foreign Minister of Ukraine, A. Valionis underlined the importance of the EU-Ukraine Action Plan. According to him, successful implementation of this Action Plan would give Ukraine a possibility to get closer to the European Union and would become an additional argument in considering its EU membership perspective. The Minister assured that Lithuania is ready to contribute to the implementation of the Action Plan and urged Ukraine to name the areas where Lithuania’s assistance is the most expected.Talking to Ukrainian representatives Lithuanian Foreign Minister raised a question concerning difficulties Lithuanian business is facing in Ukraine.The parties shared ideas about efforts to intensify trilateral dialogue between Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, which would increase support for Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Both sides were pleased to know that the implementation of the idea of creating trilateral Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian parliamentary assembly has started. The idea of such assembly was put forward during the visit of the Chairman of Seimas Artūras Paulauskas to Ukraine last December.
